Making and Playing Northern Spirit Flutes
- Engage Your Most Challenging Students Through Making a Native American Style Flute -

In the afternoon Richard Dubé will teach you how easy it is to make and play a Native American style flute with prepared materials from Northern Spirit Flutes. Rich currently teaches K to 10 music at l’École canadienne-française in Saskatoon. Earlier on his career, he taught for 10 years at Pleasant Hill Community School where over 96% of the students were of Aboriginal ancestry. In 2000, Rich began using the Native American style flute in teaching his middle years students. This had a huge impact on them. They gained a great deal of pride in themselves and in their culture. In the words of an Elder, it was no longer just and instrument it was “their spirit they were carrying.” Most recently, Rich Dubé received the Saskatchewan Orff Chapter’s Sylvia Yam Award for Excellence in Teaching.
