Fall Workshop Details

You are invited to attend Fall Workshop 2008, hosted by the Saskatchewan Chapter of Carl Orff Canada: Music for Children Association. This year's event will take place on Saturday, September 27 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Henry Braun School, 710 Graham Road, Regina, Saskatchewan.

The theme of Fall Workshop 2008 is "ONCE UPON AN (ORFF) TIME*" Our featured presenter is Catherine West, editor of Ostinato, the national journal of Music for Children: Carl Orff Canada. Using the power of stories as a unifying theme, Catherine will lead participants through Orff activities rich in cross-curricular connections as well as musical skills. Sing, move, listen and play your way through myth, poetry, picture book and traditional tale, and learn strategies for stimulating higher order thinking and creativity in your students. The projects are flexible and can be adapted for different curricular needs, experience levels and time frames. This workshop will be equally useful to music specialists and general classroom teachers. Full handouts will be provided.

Catherine West is the director of the Orff Teacher Training Program at the Royal Conservatory of Music, a Basic Orff instructor for all Teacher Training Levels (Toronto and Halifax) , and the co-conductor of the RCM Orff Ensemble. She is also an instructional music consultant with the Toronto District School Board, editor of Ostinato, and a senior associate with Connexionarts, an arts-in-education consulting company. She is well known across the country as an author, workshop clinician, and course instructor, and has worked with clients such as the National Arts Centre Orchestra, Tafelmusik, Opera Lyra, the GRAMMY's Leonard Bernstein Foundation, many school districts, and the Ontario Ministry of Education. Her most recent book is When I First Came to this Land published by Waterloo Music.
